Shipping Policy — Kodiak Island Smokehouse
At Kodiak Island Smokehouse, we ship every order with care. Because we’re located on Kodiak Island, shipping can look a little different than it does in the Lower 48 — weather, flight schedules, and carrier availability all play a role. Our goal is always to get your order to you in the best possible condition.
Below is an overview of how we ship, when we ship, and what customers can expect during the process.
Frozen & Perishable Shipments
Ship Days: Monday–Wednesday
Service: Express / Overnight Air
We ship frozen and perishable products at the beginning of the week so they don’t sit in transit over the weekend. Most orders arrive within 24–36 hours of leaving our shop.
Because weather in Kodiak can occasionally cause delays, shipping early in the week helps ensure your seafood stays cold and safe.
Thursday Shipping (By Request Only):
If you need a frozen order shipped on a Thursday, please contact us. We’re happy to talk it through and confirm you understand the additional risks that come with end-of-week flights and potential weekend delays.
Ground shipping is not available for frozen or perishable items.
Shelf-Stable Shipments
Shelf-stable items — such as jerky, canned salmon, and smoked jars — can ship Monday–Friday using ground or express services.
If your order contains any frozen item, the entire shipment follows frozen/perishable rules and ships via Express/Overnight Air.
Shipping Costs
Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on the items in your cart.
Here’s how it works:
Frozen-only orders
• Under $165 → $35 express shipping
• $165+ → Free express shipping
Mixed orders (frozen + shelf-stable)
• Frozen portion under $165 → $35 express shipping
• Frozen portion $165+ → Free express shipping
(Your full cart total may be above $165, but the frozen portion determines the shipping method.)
Shelf-stable-only orders
Ground and express options are available. Rates vary by cart total.
Hawaii Shipments
We offer a flat $45 air-service rate for orders shipping to Hawaii.
Carriers We Use
We typically ship through FedEx, but we also work with:
- UPS (by request)
- USPS
- Alaska Air Cargo (by request)
If you prefer a specific carrier, just let us know — we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Frozen shipments must be delivered to a physical address (no P.O. boxes).
Alaska Weather & Delivery Timing
Kodiak weather can be unpredictable, and carrier delays sometimes occur. Because of this, we cannot guarantee exact delivery dates — but we will always ship as close to your requested date as possible.
If your order is time-sensitive (gifts, events, travel dates), you’re welcome to contact us and we’ll help you choose the safest timing.
Cargo Shipping
We can ship boxes via Alaska Air Cargo if preferred.
